The ultimate must-have for every Thanksgiving feast, unless you’re a vegetarian (in which case, have fun with your tofu, I guess). Celebrate your American-ness with the perfect American bird and be amazed by just how dry it can be when cooked by your older relatives.
2. Mashed potatoes
Perfection when whipped properly, mashed potatoes are the perfect side dish. Just pile them onto your plate shamelessly, salt heavily, and presto, that feeling of regret is the tastiest you will ever experience.
3. Cranberry sauce
The perfect tangy sidekick to any other dish. Feel free to mix it with mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, and more for an unbelievable flavor combination every time.
Are you supposed to stuff the turkey with stuffing? At any rate, we’ve cut out the middleman and have begun stuffing the stuffing directly into ourselves. And it is delicious.
5. Pumpkin pie
Fall time is pumpkin time. Pair your pumpkin spice lattes with pumpkin pie (or don’t), and prepare for the eating experience of a lifetime.
6. Sweet potatoes
These can be mashed, whipped, or baked, but they need to be in your Thanksgiving arsenal. Sweet potatoes have such a unique flavor to them that they are nearly impossible to dislike.
7. Butternut squash
Butternut squash can be made into creamy soup, delicious croquettes, or cooked just as they are. It’s a fall flavor that’s guaranteed to taste delicious in the most Thanksgiving-y way possible.
8. Green beans
Or really just any vegetables at this point. It’s not like you’re piling up your plates at the dining halls with greens every day. Besides, any vegetable tastes better when your family cooks it.
This is really a year-round food, but it’s especially great for the holidays. Warm biscuits with butter — oh I can’t wait for Thanksgiving.
10. Apple pie
Arguably the tastiest dessert ever created, apple pie is sure to finish you off and K.O. you into the perfect food coma.
