Anyone in college knows that once you enter this new world, Halloween is no longer a one-night affair. It spans the entire weekend from Thursday night through Saturday night (Sunday morning?). It’s a weekend full of consumption (that of candy, not tuberculosis…unless you’re into some weird stuff), partying with friends, and cursing professors who thought scheduling exams the Monday after Halloweekend was a good idea. Our Halloweekend was filled with a potpourri of debauchery (#sickrhymes), kickboxing, and studying for midterms. Here’s what we’ve been up to the past couple days.
Thursday (10/29): The Nightmare Before Midterms
Merilla was in Tisch all day Thursday trying to finish enough work so that she didn’t feel guilty about going out Saturday night. She relished in her newly bought book stand (seriously, it’s a life-changer), hyped up on caffeine, one of very few people in Tisch that night and made the best of it. Rachel was Louise Belcher from Bob’s Burgers, but, unfortunately, she did not have pink bunny ears. If you know anything about Louise Belcher, you know she never takes off her pink bunny ears. Rachel decided to get crafty. She went to the Crafts Center and made her own bunny ears. Hashtag resourceful.
Friday (10/30): [Insert Decent Pun Here Or…]
Rachel went to the Tufts screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show and fell in love with the movie all over again. Like many people, Rachel’s sexual awakening occurred when she watched this movie for the first time when she was 15. Shoutout to Tim Curry’s legs in this movie. Goddamn, they are a piece of art in that movie.
During this, Merilla did some more homework, because she is kind of lame. She then made up for her lameness by rewarding herself with multiple hours of Parks & Recreation. Rachel later joined her with her friend from home who goes to Wellesley, Kristina, and together they watched some of the most famous episodes, including “Flu Season” and “Ron and Tammy Part II.” The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the large bluezone they ordered and split among the three of them, plus Merilla’s housemate, Adam. Merilla, as usual, ate the bluezone way too fast and proceeded to complain that she ate it too quickly. She’ll never learn, but it was a religious experience for all nonetheless.
Saturday (10/31): We Could Only Think of One Pun
Rachel spent most of her Saturday listening to Vitamin String Quartet’s albums covering songs from horror movies and The Nightmare before Christmas while she studied for her midterms to get herself in the Halloween mood. Merilla failed at getting any work done (hey, you can’t be 50% productive all the time, right?) and finally let herself go out on Saturday. They decided to do the best couple’s costume possible: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West aka Kimye. Perhaps the most rewarding part of Halloweekend was when “GDFR” by Flo Rida came on at a French House party, and Rachel started doing a kickboxing routine her and Merilla had learned at their weekly TSR kickboxing class (shoutout to Flora for toning our arms!). Rachel didn’t even realize what she had started: at least five complete strangers started doing the routine with her who had never been to the class before. She cheered everyone on and helped people execute the perfect uppercut. Merilla literally couldn’t believe what was happening; it was like something out of a weird movie. She fell on the ground, and it took her a solid 10 minutes to get back up.
All in all, it was a successful Halloweekend for all involved, and we are already gearing up for Halloweekend 2k16. Get ready.
Stay weird, y’all.
