It’s Spring Break! Everyone breathe a collective sigh of relief. Some of the best things to do during break are sleeping and watching movies. Here are the top movies of the week that you should check out while you’re off from school.
1. 300: Rise of an Empire
In case you didn’t get enough blood, gore, and screaming Greeks in 2006’s 300, you can now see its sequel in theaters. The film stars are Eva Green as an evil witch wearing far too much eyeliner and various shirtless men. It was the box office champ of last Friday, raking in $17.7 million. It should, at the very least, be violent and vaguely awesome.
2. Mr. Peabody and Sherman
Do you like stories about time travel? Do you like animated dogs? If the answer to both was yes, then check out Mr. Peabody and Sherman, a movie about a time traveling animated dog. The second most popular movie of last weekend, it is the quintessential family film. If you’re babysitting over break, you should take the kids to this movie.
Liam Neeson stars in Taken: Plane Edition. Apparently Lady Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey shows up too. The movie took third place in last week’s box office intake. In any case, there will be Liam Neeson with an untraceable accent beating up lots of bad guys – only at 30,000 feet in the air instead of in Eastern European brothels.
The Jesus movie, Son of God, was fourth place. It’s pretty self-evident what that’s about. The Lego Movie still remained relevant last weekend, coming in fifth place. Of all the movies currently out, that’s the one I’d see. It’s been getting great reviews and is supposedly enjoyed by both kids and adults. The movie choices are arguably pretty weak right now, but next month it will pick up starting with Captain America: the Winter Soldier. Until then, get lots of sleep and enjoy break!
