Food for Thought | Everything On A Waffle

Sitting in Dewick during Sunday brunch is easily one of the high points of the Tufts experience (though Carm also offers Saturday brunches during which all the following suggestions can also be implemented). While Sunday evenings, nicknamed Sundae Sunday, can get overwhelmingly crowded, Sunday morning brunch is usually relatively calm, relaxing, and offers a great study atmosphere, particularly when taking into consideration that the coffee is essentially “all you can drink.” However, perhaps the best part of Sunday brunch (aside from the cheese blintzes and French toast) is the ability to justify having a killer waffle. Though the waffle-maker is pretty much available 24/7, Sunday brunch is the perfect time to indulge. For waffle purists, a simple waffle or a waffle with syrup alone may suffice. However, for those who are a bit more adventurous, here are ways you can incorporate the many offerings of Dewick into your waffle experience.

1.)   Waffle Sandwich: Try putting Swiss cheese and turkey on one half of your waffle, and folding the second half over to make a melted waffle sandwich.

2.)   Waffle and Nutella: This delicious, albeit high-calorie, option will add to the quality of any waffle experience. Granted, I’m also just a big proponent of Nutella in almost any circumstance.

3.)   Fruit Waffle: Try adding the strawberries, grapes, or blueberries that are featured as part of Dewick’s Sunday brunch to your waffle. Many people often use yogurt in place of syrup for a slightly healthier option, and this would go well with fruit.

4.)   Greek Yogurt Waffle: Plain Greek yogurt and honey make for a high-protein, yet still sweet, waffle topping.

5.)   Peanut Butter Waffle: Whether chunky or smooth, peanut butter can make a great addition to any waffle. You can also add bananas or honey (or both!) to dress it up even further.

6.)   Dessert Waffle: This waffle option is particularly easy to make given the offerings of Sundae Sunday (or Sundae Thursday). Add hot fudge, strawberry sauce, caramel, chocolate chips, or any of the sundae bar offerings to your waffle. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can add ice cream to the waffle as well.

Long story short, nothing beats Dewick Sundays…but a waffle can sure enhance them.
